Summer — slump and shade

Slower growth, longer rests, and when shade earns its keep.

Summer is when humid Mid-Atlantic pasture tells the truth. Growth slows; heat rises; green color lies.

Grass: Longer rests, shorter grazes. “Still green” ≠ ready — reading the pasture, grass under trees.
Animals / density: Drop pressure or add paddocks in the rotation. Open ground asks more of stock in heat — stocking density.
Trees: Shade becomes operationally valuable. Watch browse and rub when forage is short — establishment.

If every July is a crisis, the annual rate or rest plan is wrong — fix it before fall. Year spine: Mid-Atlantic pasture year.
